So, YES- you think your kid has what it takes to be a model? Where do you start?
They approach you in the mall, they tell you that you, or your kid “has what it takes” and they ” want her”. Lol. Right! They also want you to pay them, and you never get any jobs.
Recruiter’s. That’s what these people are. They make a commission on recruits!
They “book” you, and when tou get there you have to pay a fee, photographer, for your prints, and for a portfolio- some even want you to pay for Modeling “School”.
Luckily, putting my daughter in modeling since the age of 8 Months old- I was never scammed, not once. But that’s only because I knew better and have had prior experience with the modeling industry for years.
You should NEVER pay a photographer, the agency, or even for a portfolio. Legit agencies PAY YOU! I never had to put out a dime.
World of Kids agency in South Beach Miami, are the only TRUE legit child-based modeling agency in this region. They are next to Ford Models and Wilhelmenia. They actually took over the kids division for the Top Agencies in the area.
Signed with them since 8 months of age, my daughter had the opportunity to model fashion for Kmart, Sears, The Children’s Place, Fisher Price, and JC Penny.
This industy isnt as fun as it seems, you get called, sign a contract (basically saying your kid belongs to “them” and cannot participate in any other modeling ventures as long as you are under contract), you get the calls the EVENING before, and have to be at a South Beach Hotel at 7am for a casting call. Paid?- Yes, and it’s decent income as long as you stay active with the positions. Keeping up with them is almost impossible, luckily Im a work-from-home business owner and was able to attend the “last minute” positions.
This world is full of scams, if you are looking for a legit Modeling Agency, in which you do not have to pay for any services- such as a photographer or portfolio- you can submit your child’s photo and stats to World of Kids in Miami via online or US mail.
Good Luck! Don’t get discouraged if they don’t accept your child- this is one of Florida’s only child-based agencies and THEY ARE PICKY! If your child is the slightest bit over (or under) weight and cannot model the size clothing that is in their age bracket- it wont happen- if it’s summertime and your kid is fair skinned- it won’t happen.
No experience? That’s what they like! The MOST accepted models by child-based agencies at this time are bi or multi-racial children that fall in their correct weight catagory, you can have the cutest kid in town- but if your child is 5 years old and wears a size 7/8 or 10/12- he or she cannot model the clothing in their age range- it womt happen- it just cant happen!
Good Luck, and have fun…… it’s a alot of work!
